Our Messiah will be making his appearance!” Not only did they know the year, but the signs in the heavens, of a star that “appeared” to proclaim his arrival, along with a group of travelers from a foreign country a few years later, looking for the great king that was born, all pointed to the fact that Daniel’s prophecy had indeed come to pass! With the Torah truth, and with the signs of the star, the shepherds, and the traveling “wise men from afar”, there was assuredly no doubt in their minds that the Messiah did indeed come! The problem was his arrival! The problem was how he chose to present himself to the people! They expected some glorious moment when he would miraculously proclaim his kingdom, remove the heel of Roman oppression from off of their collective backs, and restore the kingdom of Israel to its former days of glory as in the kingdoms of David and Solomon!

To dispute Jesus, the first thing they did was to proclaim that there was only ONE GOD! Jesus never proclaimed that he was GOD, but most assuredly did proclaim to them that he was the Son of God! In Matthew 27, the Jews are mocking him as he hung on the cross, and said “He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.” In John 10:36 Jesus says to the Pharisees and scribes again… “Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?” It is sad to see how the Jew’s rejected the Son of God and oneness theology accepts the Son of God but rejects the Father! To say that Jesus is the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost all in one is to reject the distinct, absolute existence of the Heavenly Father who brought forth His only begotten son Jesus, by whom all things were created, and to diminish the promise and gift of the Father, the Holy Ghost!

I know the point of Oneness theology that would insert itself about now, of “God was the Father in Creation, the Son in Redemption, and the Holy Ghost in regeneration!” So all of this would flow together, right? Wrong! Proof that the above statement is theologically flawed is found in Hebrews 1:1-3 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.

The Son of God was used by the Father to create all that was made, and being the express image of the Father, and upholding all things by the word of power of the Father (the son is the word) and the same word sits at the right hand of the Father…So, the Son was the creator…not the Father!! Ephesians 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

Let us move onward with our main point, the beginning of this false doctrine. The Jews were the first one to proclaim that Jesus was blaspheming God, by proclaiming that he was the Son of God, and that he shared glory with his Father, the True and Living God!

The early church founders and fathers, specifically the apostles along with Paul, wrote the books of the New Testament! Not one of the apostles in their writings indicate that Jesus was the Father in bodily form! It was not until the 3rd century, after the formation of the Catholic church, that the doctrine of “Oneness” pops up! I will clarify later on in this writing the meaning of the unity of Christ with his Father and how the word of God explains the Oneness of the Godhead, specifically mentioned in I John Chapter 5. In the third century A.D, within the Catholic church, there arose a heretical doctrine known as Sabellianism, and also Monarchial Modalism. This idea came about through a monk named Sabellius, who proposed the thought that the Godhead was a Monad, expressing itself as the Father in creation, the son in redemption, and the Holy spirit in sanctification. Sound familiar? More naïve forms of this thought took shape and became known as Monarchial Modalism. Basically, this doctrine states that God will switch into different “modes” as necessary, presenting himself as Father when needed, switching modes to become the Son when required, and of course always available to be the Holy Spirit in between the other “modes” of operation.

Another argument that I know begins to arise… “Well, He is God, isn’t He? Can’t he do or be who he wishes to be at any time that he would desire?” Yes, he can, but has never presented himself outside of the express “WORD OF HIS POWER”. In other words, he will stick to his word and not try to fool you or anyone else desiring to know HIS true nature! In the book of Exodus chapter 33, Moses desired to see God, and God said to him, “no man can see my face, and live”. Yet in the same chapter, verse 11 we find that Moses spoke with God face to face, as a man speaks with a friend! And not only Moses, but in Chapter 24, seventy of the elders of the children of Israel saw God, and did live to tell about it! The scriptures say, “they saw God, and did eat and drink”!

Who did they see? Was it the glory of the Father? Or the Humility of the Son? The answer should be obvious, as the word of God does not contradict itself. The Son of God, who shared glory with his Father from before the world began, (John 17:5) was the back side, or humility side, of the Father that Moses was able to see, and the elders of Israel were able to see! It was Christ the Rock that followed Israel through the wilderness, the Son of God! (I Cor. 10:4) Jesus, the Son of GOD, came in the name and the authority of his Father! (John 5:43)

Oneness theologians will assert at this point the all to familiar phrase to explain their unexplainable. “This is a theophany!” The definition of a theophany is an expression of God, or a manifestation of God. But I present to you the true theophanies of God, such as a burning bush that is not consumed, the pillar of fire by night that stood over the tabernacle in the wilderness with the children of Israel, or the pillar of cloud by day, and many, many others. But not the “express image” of the personage that Moses spoke with! That was no expression or manifestation of God….IT WAS GOD THE SON! What we have to do is rightly divide the word of truth to know if it was God the Father? Or was it God the Son? Again, this rhetorical question needs no answer, as it is obvious NO MAN has seen the Father and lived! John 6:46. However, the many thousands of people who walked, talked, and fellowshipped with Jesus, the Son of God, while he walked the earth in the days of his ministry, did not perish! If he was truly the Father indeed, the WORD of God would have to be fulfilled and all that saw him perish!

Another of many, many points to be made in the distinction between the Father and the son is the defined expression of the Wisdom of God, Jesus Christ! 1 Corinthians 1:24 “But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.”

We must now go to the book of Proverbs Chapter 8, to see the beginnings of the Wisdom of God, the Christ! Read all of it to recognize that the Son of God was indeed brought forth in eternity past by his Father, and also in these last days in the flesh, being born of a virgin, for our redemption and sanctification! Notice these verses in Proverbs 8:

22 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.

25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:

26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.

27When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:

28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:

29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:

30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;

31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.

Or, how about this psalm of the king and prophet David, which are affirmed twice in the New Testament?

Psalms 2:7

I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Acts 13:33

God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

Hebrews 1:5

For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee?
